Parish Ministries and Groups (Commissions)

Parish Pastoral Council
The Parish Council coordinates the efforts and activities of the parish. Together with its commissions and the pastoral staff, this council provides vision and direction for the pastoral activity of the parish.All registered and confirmed members of St. Pius X Parish are eligible for service on the council. There are 14 members, the Pastor and an appointee of his choice and 12 members are elected by lot from a list of nominees who have been verified by a selection committee. All terms are for three years, starting in June. Four positions are chosen year, in the spring. There are six scheduled meetings per year.

Finance Council
The Finance Council advises and aides the pastor in the administration of the parish. It serves the pastor and the parish as primary consultants in any financial matters requiring the bishop's approval. It assists the pastor in making administrative decisions and policies in the care of parish finances. The Finance Council is composed of the pastor, the parish financial officer and six members selected by the pastor. It is a three year term, beginning in June. There are six scheduled meetings per year. Two members are selected each year.

Worship Commission
Spiritual growth, development and meaningful celebration of the Liturgy and Sacraments are the mission of the Worship Commission. It is the responsibility of this commission to: provide and promote opportunities for our parish community to grow in the spiritual life; reach out to the searching, the alienated and those who do not attend church; provide leadership and direction for the liturgical and spiritual ministries of the parish; to assessthe spiritual and liturgical needs of the parish and develop specific responses to these needs.

Christian Service Commission
Christan Service will begin meeting on the second Monday of September. Anyone wishing to participate in Christian Service to the community is welcome to join. Examples of annual projects include: promoting the CROP Walk, handing out Life Savers before and after Mass on Right to Life Sunday, addressing and sending cards made by St. Pius X School students to senior citizens, organizing and carrying out the Giving Tree project in December, helping with the Annointing of the Sick Mass and making up Easter baskets for the St. Vincent dePaul kids.

Education Commission
Ongoing Christian education and evangelization is the mission of the Education Commission. It is the responsibility of this commission to initiate and implement formal educational programs within the parish, the community and the home. These educational programs will serve to foster a greater awareness of our Catholic faith among the youth of the parish; encourage and assist adults in taking an active role in educating our Catholic brothers and sisters; encourage a daily sharing of our knowledge and commitment to our Catholic faith. There are six scheduled meetings per year.

Activities Commission
Nurturing and promoting a sense of fellowship and community with the parish family is the mission of the Activities Commission. It is the responsibility of this commission to plan and implement activities tailored to meet the needs and desires of the parish family. These activities will reach out to all parishioners and provide an environment of happiness, enjoyment and companionship with in the parish. There are six scheduled meetings per year. The commission has been inactive for several years. If you are interested in starting it again, please sign up.

Religious Education
The CCD Program for grades 1-7 instructs children in the development of their Catholic faith. CCD classes are 1 hour 15 minutes on Wednesday during the school year. Confirmation class ( grade 8) meets on Sunday evenings 6-8 P.M.

Children's dismissal on Sunday during 9:30 & 11:30 A.M. Masses helps children grades 1-6 participate more directly in the Liturgy of the Word. Leaders needed.

A religious preschool is provided for 3, 4 & 5 year olds at the 9:30 and 11:30 A.M. Masses

St. Joseph Guild
Seventeen volunteers make themselves available to the parish and school each Wednesday morning at 9:00 AM. The next meeting of the Guild will be on the first Wednesday of September. These handymen do a variety of repair and new construction on the parish grounds. The guild always welcomes new members. Contact Al Godin 635-2276, the rectory or send email for more information. Sharing our talents is one of the best way to show our love of God and our fellowman.

St. Pius X Youth Group
The Youth Group is open to all high school students in grades 9-12. You do not have to be Catholic to attend. Students may earn Powers service hours for activities sponsored by the Youth Group

Tuesday Toasters ( Senior Citizens Group)
Every Tuesday morning, members of the parish gather to celebrate the 8 AM Mass. This is followed by coffee and friendship in the parish center. Visitors are welcome and all share in offering caring support of one another. On birthdays we meet at a restaurant for lunch or dinner and informal trips are periodically planned. Every December we plan a train trip to Chicago for shopping, attending plays and visiting museums.

Golf League
A summer men's golf league is sponsored in the name of St. Pius X Parish. The league plays on Monday evenings.

Men's Non Smoker
A group of men meet the first Friday of each month from 7-10 PM in the rectory to play cards and socialize. This is open to all men of the parish.

Garden Angels
Help with the planting of flowers and trees on parish grounds as well as the upkeep of the gardens.



Family Fun Day Committee
This group is responsible for planning the annual Family Fun Day. The purpose of the Family Fun Day is to promote a sense of parish community and fellowship through a fun event for all ages. Committee members are always needed to help plan and run the event. Meetings generally begin in January and are held on an as-needed basis until the date of the event (normally early June).

St. Vincent de Paul Society
The St. Vincent de Paul Society provides assistance for up to 100 people per month, who are in need in our area. The most frequent requests are for food. Our ability to help those in need depends on the money put into the poor boxes and the donations we receive.

St. Pius X Altar Society
The St. Pius X Rosary Altar Society ladies are responsible providers of the church furnishings, cleaning of the sanctuary. purchasing of vestments and linens and coming up with special fundraising events to cover these expenses. This past Christmas, a beautiful new set of nativity figures were purchased for the altar. The Altar Society is affiliated with the Regional, Diocesan and National Council of Catholic Women.

The St. Pius X Rosary Altar Society invites all female adult members of the parish, married or single, to join the Altar Society. The meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 6:00 PM in the parish center, September through June. Yearly dues are $2.00. If you are unable to attend meetings you may put your dues into an envelope marked "Altar Society". Please include your name, address and telephone number, and drop the envelope into the collection basket at any Mass. benefits of membership include a Parish Mass said yearly for living members; A Parish Mass said yearly for deceased members; A Funeral Mass for members & rosary recited at the funeral home by Altar Society member of social group that benefits the parish and companionship.

Prayer Ministry
As a parish community, we depend on prayer to guide decisions, strengthen parish bonds and comfort those in need. A daily commitment to pray for the intentions of the parish is a faith-filled ministry. Members may choose to be active in the parish prayer chain and be given specific intentions. Ages: High School -Adult. Robin D'Angelo at 233-0463

Knights of Columbus
Thr Fr. John Blasko Council # 8245 meets in the rectory basement on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM. The Knights are the largest Catholic men's organization in the world and are committed to supporting our parishes, clergy and works of charity. Our organization is open to all practicing Catholic men, eighteen years of age and older.

Stephen's Ministry
Stephen Ministers are trained at the parish to provide one-on-one Christian care-giving to those experiencing a crisis in their lives. It is basically a listening ministry which involves 50 hours of training before being assigned as a caregiver. A two year commitment is required. Stephen Ministers also learn much that assists them in their own everyday encounters with others.

Music Ministry and Choir
Practice is in the church on Thursdays at 7 PM. The Choir sings at the 9:30 AM Masses on Sunday. Ages: High school-Adult

Eucharistic Ministers
A minister of the Eucharist serves regularly at weekend liturgies at the same Mass every third or fourth week. Ages: High school-Adult

Lectors
Lectors are ministers of the Word whose role is to proclaim the Word of God to the assembly. Lectors are scheduled to read at the same Mass each month, or if desired to rotate at weekend Masses. Each person interested will be given materials necessary to prepare for the Liturgy.

Ushers Club
Ushers are a very caring, generous and talented group of men who are ready to lend a hand at the first sign of need. All men of the parish are invited to join.

Funeral Luncheon Group
These members provide a luncheon for family and friends after a funeral. Men and women are invited to make telephone calls, set, prepare dishes or clean up after gatherings.

Greeters
A greeter is someone who welcomes those attending Sunday Masses. Volunteers are always needed.

Eucharistic Ministers to Shut-Ins
These volunteers bring communion to parishioners unable to attend Sunday Mass.

Eucharistic Ministers to Nursing Home Residents
Every Tuesday at 1 PM Eucharistic Ministers bring the Holy Eucharist to all the Catholic residents who desire the Sacrament at Heritage Manor. Every Wednesday at 10 AM Eucharistic Ministers bring the Holy Eucharist to Willowbrook. Volunteers are always needed.

Eucharistic Ministers to Senior Residences
Twice a month volunteers provide the Catholic residents at Flint Heights on Miller Road and Woodhaven on Dye Road the opportunity to participate in a Communion service.

North End Soup Kitchen
On the third Friday ( morning) of each month, volunteers are needed for the noon meal at the Soup Kitchen. The service consists of preparation and serving of the meal. Those who are not free to serve may minister by making a commitment of a monetary pledge to provide a meal at the kitchen.

Bible Study
Wednesday evening Bible study meets at 6:15 PM in the Parish center. Thursday morning Bible study meets at 9:30 AM in the Parish center. We welcome new participants.
